The Met Office has forecast another rain spell in upper parts of Pakistan from Thursday, September 3. The new weather system may bring rain, strong winds and thunderstorms to several areas.
According to the latest weather report, monsoon currents continue to affect the upper parts of the country. A westerly wave is also influencing the region. The system may strengthen on September 4 and 5.
Rain Forecast for Kashmir and Punjab
The Met Office expects rain, strong winds and thunderstorms in Kashmir from September 3 to 6. Some areas may receive heavy rainfall during the period, with breaks between showers.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat and other parts of upper Punjab may also receive rain. Forecasters expect isolated heavy falls in these areas on September 4 and 5.
Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Narowal and nearby parts of Punjab could also see rainfall. Residents may experience strong winds and thunderstorms during the weather spell.
Heavy Rain Expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may receive rain, strong winds and thunderstorms from September 3 to 5. Some areas could experience scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The forecast also covers parts of Gilgit-Baltistan. Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar may receive rain from September 3 to 6. Forecasters expect occasional breaks between spells.
Balochistan could also see thunderstorms and rain. The affected areas include Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel and surrounding districts.
Heavy Rain May Cause Urban Flooding
The Met Office has warned that heavy rainfall could cause urban flooding in low-lying areas. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Lahore face a higher risk on September 4 and 5.
Heavy rain may also trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs. The risk extends to Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Malakand, Mansehra and Abbottabad.
Several areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir could also face flash flooding. Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi remain among the areas that authorities should monitor closely.
Landslide Risk in Hilly Areas
The weather system may increase the risk of landslides in hilly areas. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir could face the greatest danger during the forecast period.
Residents in vulnerable areas should remain alert as conditions can change quickly. People travelling through mountainous areas should also exercise caution during periods of heavy rain.
