Pakistan spinner Noman Ali has signed a short-term contract with Lancashire for the final phase of the County Championship, giving the experienced left-arm spinner his first opportunity to play county cricket in England.
The 39-year-old will feature in six County Championship matches while remaining available for Pakistan during their three-Test series against England.
Noman Ali Set for First County Cricket Experience
Noman Ali will join Lancashire for the remainder of the County Championship season.The competition runs alongside Pakistan’s Test series against England, which begins on August 19 at Headingley.
As a result, Noman will stay close to the national team and could join the squad if Pakistan needs an additional spinner because of injury.
Pakistan Keeps Experienced Spinner Available
Pakistan currently have Ali Usman and Sajid Khan as their frontline spin options.
However, Noman Ali’s presence in England provides valuable cover throughout the series.His experience could prove important if Pakistan needs another specialist spinner during the tour.
Strong Test Comeback in 2024
Noman made an impressive return to Pakistan’s Test team during the home series against England in late 2024.He played the final two Tests after earning a recall.Moreover, he produced a match-winning performance by taking 20 wickets across the two matches.
His outstanding bowling helped Pakistan recover from a 1-0 deficit and secure a 2-1 series victory.
Lost Place After Bangladesh Tour
Despite his success against England, Noman lost his place during Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh earlier this year.Selectors preferred fellow left-arm spinner Ali Usman.
Usman later impressed in the West Indies by taking six wickets during Pakistan’s victory in the second Test at Queen’s Park Oval.
Noman Excited to Join Lancashire
Noman said he is looking forward to experiencing county cricket for the first time.He also expressed his excitement about representing one of England’s most historic cricket clubs.The veteran spinner said he hopes to make a positive contribution both on and off the field.

Meanwhile, Lancashire continue their push for promotion in Division Two of the County Championship.The club currently sits seventh in the standings.
However, Lancashire still have six matches remaining and remain in contention for promotion with a strong finish to the season.
