Businesses in Oman must obtain official approval before manufacturing or printing Oman National Day merchandise featuring national symbols.
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) issued a circular outlining the requirements ahead of the upcoming National Day celebrations. According to the ministry, businesses must receive permission before commercially producing items that feature protected national symbols.
The deadline for submitting commercial design requests is October 15, 2026. Therefore, merchants, manufacturers and commercial printers are being urged to complete the approval process before production begins.
National Symbols Need Prior Approval
The ministry has specified several national symbols that require approval before they can appear on commercial merchandise.
These include:
- The image of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
- The National Emblem of the Sultanate of Oman.
- The official map of Oman.
- The national flag.
Businesses planning to use any of these elements on products must submit their designs for review. As a result, companies should secure approval before printing large quantities of merchandise.
Some Royal Symbols Are Prohibited
In addition to the approval requirements, the ministry has clarified that certain royal symbols cannot be used on commercial products.
The prohibited designs include the Royal Emblem, as well as images or depictions of Royal Palaces and Royal Mosques.
These elements are not permitted on National Day merchandise. Therefore, businesses must ensure their proposed designs do not contain any of these symbols.
How Businesses Can Apply
Merchants, manufacturers and commercial printers must submit a formal application to the Licensing Department at MoCIIP.
The application must include design mock-ups or sample photographs. These materials should clearly show how the proposed merchandise will look when the national symbols are included.
The ministry will then review the submitted designs as part of the approval process. Meanwhile, businesses should ensure that their applications are complete and comply with the stated requirements.
The rules are intended to ensure that commercial products featuring Oman’s national and royal symbols follow the country’s regulations.
With the October 15 deadline approaching, businesses preparing National Day merchandise should submit their designs in advance. This will also help avoid delays in production and printing before the celebrations begin.
