India completed a dominant 3-0 T20 International series sweep over Zimbabwe after teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced another outstanding performance in the final match on Sunday.
The 15-year-old left-hander hammered a brilliant 81 off 49 balls, guiding India to a commanding 35-run victory at the Harare Sports Club. His fearless innings helped India post 192/5 before the visitors restricted Zimbabwe to 157/7.
Sooryavanshi Continues His Remarkable Rise
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, India received the perfect platform from Sooryavanshi, who showcased remarkable maturity and power despite his young age. He played a range of attacking strokes all around the ground, recording his highest international score to date.
His innings ended only after Zimbabwe’s Brad Evans produced a stunning diving catch at long-off to dismiss him off the bowling of Wessly Madhevere.
The knock surpassed the explosive 50 he scored from just 19 deliveries in the opening match of the series and further confirmed his status as one of cricket’s brightest young talents.
Young Star Bounces Back in Style
Sooryavanshi made his senior international debut earlier this month against England after impressing in the Indian Premier League. However, his first series proved challenging, with scores of 14, 13 and 15 before being left out of the final game.
His performances in Zimbabwe have completely changed the narrative, as the teenager grabbed the opportunity with both hands and announced himself on the international stage.
India Dominate With Ball
India’s bowlers ensured Zimbabwe never came close to the target despite a few dropped catches and some untidy fielding.
The hosts suffered an immediate setback when opener Brian Bennett was dismissed off the very first delivery, thanks to a sharp slip catch taken by Sooryavanshi off the bowling of Mayank Yadav.
Mayank finished as India’s standout bowler with impressive figures of 3 for 29, while Zimbabwe struggled to build partnerships throughout the chase.
The only major resistance came from Ryan Burl, who remained unbeaten on 54 from 43 balls, but his effort was not enough to prevent another Indian victory.
Player of the Match and Series
For his outstanding contributions throughout the series, Sooryavanshi was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series.
Speaking after the match, the teenager expressed his delight at achieving his first individual international awards.
“It feels amazing. I also played the Under-19 World Cup here, so I enjoy batting in these conditions. The coach and captain always backed me. I wanted to play my natural T20 game, give the team a strong start and convert it into a big innings. Winning both awards is a dream come true.”
