Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem Commonwealth Games campaign remains on track after the star javelin thrower secured his place in the men’s final with his best performance of the season.
The 29-year-old athlete produced a throw of 78.63 metres during Monday’s qualifying round in Glasgow, earning seventh place and comfortably booking his spot in the medal event.
Season’s Best Secures Final Spot
Arshad entered the qualification round looking to improve his recent performances and successfully delivered his strongest throw of the year.
His effort of 78.63 metres ensured qualification for the Commonwealth Games final, where the world’s top javelin throwers will compete for medals.
The men’s javelin final is scheduled for Friday evening in Glasgow, with Pakistani fans hoping Arshad can successfully defend the Commonwealth title he won in Birmingham four years ago.

Arshad became a household name after winning gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with a record-breaking throw of 90.18 metres.
He later made history by becoming Pakistan’s Olympic gold medallist, establishing himself as one of the world’s leading javelin throwers.
His qualification in Glasgow keeps alive hopes of adding another major international title to his growing collection.
Strong Competition Awaits
The final promises to be highly competitive.
India’s Neeraj Chopra and Rohit Yadav both advanced, while Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga topped the qualifying standings with an impressive throw of 82.84 metres.
Arshad will need one of his biggest throws of the season if he hopes to retain his Commonwealth crown.
Yasir Misses Qualification
Pakistan’s second representative, Muhammad Yasir, narrowly missed qualification.
Yasir registered a season-best throw of 74.36 metres, finishing 14th overall, with only the top 12 athletes advancing to the final.
Despite missing out, Yasir continued to show steady improvement following his bronze-medal performance at last year’s Asian Throwing Championships.
Eyes on Another Gold Medal
Before travelling to Scotland, Arshad admitted he felt pressure as the defending champion but remained confident in his preparation.
He said every major competition brings expectations, adding that controlling pressure is one of the biggest challenges for elite athletes.
