Major AI services, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, have suffered widespread outages, leaving users in several countries unable to access the platforms normally.
Users began reporting problems with some of the biggest AI chatbots during the morning. Downdetector, which tracks reports of online service disruptions, recorded a sharp increase in complaints involving several major AI platforms.
The affected services include OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini and X’s Grok. Users reported difficulties accessing the services, while some also experienced errors when trying to use individual features.
Multiple AI Platforms Face Problems
The cause of the disruption remains unclear. The timing of the outages has raised questions because other major technology services are also experiencing technical problems.
Cloudflare, a company that provides infrastructure and security services for a large part of the internet, is showing ongoing issues on its service status page. Amazon Web Services (AWS), one of the world’s largest cloud computing providers, is also dealing with technical problems.
It is not yet clear whether the issues affecting Cloudflare and AWS are connected to the problems reported by the AI platforms.
Cloudflare’s status page lists two ongoing incidents, although both were first reported several days ago. The company had not posted a new explanation for the latest disruption at the time of the reports.
ChatGPT and Claude Report Errors
OpenAI’s status page showed elevated errors affecting ChatGPT and Codex. The company was continuing to monitor the situation as reports of problems changed throughout the morning.
Anthropic also experienced problems with its AI models. The company initially reported errors affecting most of its models. It later said the issues had become limited to Opus 4.8 and Opus 5.
Grok continued to experience widespread problems as users reported difficulties accessing the service.
Downdetector data showed that reports involving OpenAI had fallen significantly by 11:56 a.m. ET. However, users were still reporting a large number of problems with Claude, Grok and Gemini.
Cause of Global AI Outages Remains Unknown
The simultaneous problems have affected several of the world’s most widely used AI services. However, there was no immediate confirmation that the outages shared a single cause.
Technology companies often experience temporary disruptions because of server problems, network failures, software updates or issues with third-party infrastructure. In this case, the involvement of several major platforms has drawn particular attention.
Companies were continuing to investigate the disruptions, and the situation could change as engineers identify the source of the problems and restore affected services.
