Colin Gray Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison
A Georgia judge sentenced Colin Gray to 15 years in prison after finding him criminally responsible for giving his son the firearm used in the deadly Apalachee High School shooting.
The September 4, 2024, attack killed two students and two teachers. It also injured several others. The sentence came just days after the court sentenced Colt Gray to life in prison without parole.
Judge Says Colin Gray Failed as a Parent
Judge Nicholas Primm said Colin Gray ignored several warning signs before the shooting.
He acknowledged that the father did not intend to commit murder. However, he said Gray failed to protect others by allowing his son to keep access to firearms despite serious concerns about his mental health.
The judge stressed that securing the weapons could have prevented the tragedy.

Relatives argued that Colin Gray ignored repeated warnings. They also said he failed to protect innocent students and teachers.
Several family members asked the court to impose the maximum punishment. They said they would carry their grief for the rest of their lives.
Prosecutors Highlight Warning Signs
Prosecutors said Colin Gray bought the semiautomatic rifle as a Christmas gift for his son. He also purchased ammunition and shooting accessories.
Investigators said Colt Gray showed troubling behavior for months before the attack. He spent time in online communities that focused on mass shootings.
The teen’s mother also warned Colin Gray to lock up the family’s guns and restrict their son’s access. Prosecutors argued that he ignored those warnings.
Georgia School Shooting Leaves Lasting Impact
The shooting at Apalachee High School shocked communities across Georgia.
The attack killed teachers Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie. It also claimed the lives of students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo.
Nine other people suffered injuries during the shooting.
