Polish security services are examining a terrorism warning issued by Belarus after officials in Minsk claimed an individual was planning an attack against the children of a Belarusian activist living in Poland.
The warning has prompted Polish authorities to review the information, with officials stressing that any reports of potential terrorist activity are treated with the utmost seriousness.
Belarus Shares Alleged Attack Information
According to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, officials met with Poland’s chargé d’affaires in Minsk, Krzysztof Ożanna, on Thursday to provide details about the alleged threat.
Belarus claims the suspect is a person residing in Poland who has a previous criminal conviction and recently lost both additional protection and legal residency rights.
Authorities in Belarus allege the individual intended to target the children of a Belarusian activist living in Poland as an act of revenge, claiming the activist had failed to help preserve the suspect’s immigration status.
The Belarusian government also stated it is willing to provide additional information to Polish authorities if requested.
Polish Authorities Treat Threat Seriously
Responding to questions from the Polish Press Agency, Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister coordinating Poland’s special services, declined to discuss operational details but confirmed that security agencies are taking the matter seriously.
He emphasized that Polish intelligence services never ignore reports of possible threats and carefully assess any information that could pose a risk to public safety.
Dobrzyński also noted that intelligence agencies generally avoid commenting publicly while investigations remain active.
Foreign Minister Confirms Review
Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski also addressed the situation, confirming that the government is reviewing the Belarusian warning.
Speaking to reporters in Warsaw, Sikorski said every terrorism alert is verified carefully, adding that authorities are still assessing the information received from Belarus.
Investigation Continues
At this stage, Polish authorities have not confirmed the credibility of the alleged plot or announced any arrests connected to the warning.
Security services continue to evaluate the intelligence while maintaining that protecting public safety remains their top priority.
